PUTRAJAYA, July 25 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has clarified that the reduction in RON95 petrol price and the deferment of toll hikes are targeted measures to ease the financial burden on Malaysia’s M40 income group.
He explained that while B40 communities often use motorcycles with lower fuel needs, M40 families rely more on cars, leading to higher petrol and toll expenses. Anwar emphasised that the government’s aid rollout has progressively extended from the hardcore poor to the B40 and is now reaching the M40.
With RON95 petrol set to drop to RM1.99 per litre and toll hikes postponed, he noted these steps will directly benefit middle-income earners. He also confirmed that the government is prepared to bear RM500 million in compensation to toll concessionaires to maintain affordability for road users.
