PUTRAJAYA, July 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clarified today that the government’s anti-corruption efforts are focused on recovering stolen public funds, not targeting individuals posthumously.
Speaking at the Finance Ministry’s monthly assembly, Anwar criticised Opposition lawmakers for defending those allegedly involved in massive financial scandals. Without naming anyone, Anwar highlighted cases where individuals amassed unexplained wealth worth billions,
Stating that recovering public money is essential, regardless of whether the person is deceased. His remarks follow reports of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s move to seize RM3 billion in assets linked to the late Tun Daim Zainuddin and his family.
