KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) has urged the government to immediately gazette the September 15 public holiday to provide legal clarity for businesses.
ollowing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement, FMM expressed concern over confusion in the manufacturing sector regarding employers’ obligations under the Employment Act 1955.
FMM President Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai highlighted that unplanned holidays disrupt operations, especially for shift-based industries, causing inefficiencies and increased costs.
The group called for clear policy communication, advising businesses to prepare contingency plans and reminding employers to monitor the gazette for compliance requirements.
