PETALING JAYA, July 26 — Political analyst Awang Azman Pawi of Universiti Malaya cautioned that PAS could lose momentum and fresh talent if Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor chooses not to contest the party’s vice-presidency.
Despite Sanusi’s widespread popularity among grassroots and young voters, his reluctance may signal a lack of leadership renewal within the party, potentially deterring professionals and younger demographics in the long run.
While Sanusi’s decision may be seen as a gesture of humility and loyalty, Awang Azman warned that over-reliance on the existing leadership could hinder PAS’s adaptability beyond the era of president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
In contrast, UKM’s Kartini Aboo Talib argued that internal consensus and continued leadership training suggest the party is maintaining strategic continuity following its historic 2022 general election success.
