PETALING JAYA, July 28 — A 14-year-old girl, Wong Yee Xuan, who went missing after being dropped off at school in Taman Ehsan, Kepong on July 23, has been found safe by police in Batu Pahat after a four-day search.
Her disappearance sparked widespread concern on social media, after her grandfather, who raised her, discovered she had not attended school that day despite watching her enter the school grounds earlier that morning.
According to China Press, Wong is believed to have skipped school to meet a man in his forties whom she had befriended online through video games. Her family suspects grooming, citing past incidents where the man had picked her up in person, made inappropriate promises, and was once linked to signs of a possible physical relationship.
Wong’s father, who works in Singapore, had personally searched for the man in Johor, only to find he had moved and was allegedly involved with loan sharks. Wong has been living with her grandfather since her mother’s death last year, while her father works abroad.
The police confirmed the teenager was located safely on July 27 around 5pm, and investigations are ongoing. Her father plans to meet with her and the authorities to learn more about the circumstances behind her disappearance.
