KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — As cyber threats escalate globally, higher education institutions must urgently evolve to cultivate a cyber-resilient workforce capable of defending national and economic security, says Ts Mohd Roydean Osman of Taylor’s University.

He calls for universities to embed cybersecurity education across all disciplines, co-design agile curricula with industry, and provide hands-on training in real-world cyber scenarios to produce both technical specialists and strategic leaders.

Osman emphasised that universities should go beyond theory by offering ethical hacking labs, cyber ranges, and Red Team/Blue Team exercises. He also highlighted the importance of industry certifications, internships, and mentorships to ensure students are job-ready.

“Cybersecurity education must be interdisciplinary, industry-driven, and impact-focused,” he said, adding that institutions must become ecosystem builders for innovation and national resilience in the digital age.
