PUTRAJAYA, August 1 – Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called on the Founding Board of the Malaysian Media Council to immediately engage with all media organisations, addressing concerns over transparency and the council’s accreditation process.

Stressing the need to uphold media freedom, Fahmi proposed a comprehensive dialogue to clarify the council’s direction ahead of its first Annual General Meeting in November. The council, recently formalised through a government gazette.

Comprises 12 members representing media companies, associations, and independent practitioners. Fahmi emphasised that its formation is part of broader reforms to strengthen accountability, professionalism, and press freedom within Malaysia’s media landscape.
