KUALA LUMPUR, August 1 — Sun Life Malaysia’s latest Financial Resilience Index reveals that inflation is forcing Malaysians—particularly Gen Z—to prioritise short-term needs over long-term goals. While 66% of Baby Boomers feel financially secure, only 52% of Gen Z share that confidence with nearly a third avoiding financial guidance entirely.
The study also found that 92% of Malaysians are feeling inflationary pressure, and 43% say it significantly impacts their ability to cover monthly expenses. More than half of respondents (56%) lack a financial plan beyond 12 months, and just 8% are planning 10 years ahead, exposing a serious gap in long-term preparedness.
Sun Life Malaysia is responding with expanded financial literacy initiatives in 2025, aiming to equip Malaysians—especially younger generations—with tools to build lasting financial resilience amid ongoing economic uncertainty.
