GEORGE TOWN, August 2 – Penang Chief Minister YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow today announced that the implementation of the new water tariff under the Tariff Setting Mechanism (TSM) Phase 2, originally scheduled for 1 August 2025, has been deferred to 1 July 2026.
The one-year postponement is expected to benefit 715,957 water users across the state. Under the revised tariff, 79.88% of the 613,660 domestic users consuming up to 35 cubic meters monthly would have faced an increase of RM0.30 to RM2.55 in their bills.
While 95.38% of the 98,155 non-domestic users using up to 200 cubic meters monthly would have seen increases between RM3.60 and RM35.70. The delay allows Penangites more time to prepare, while the projected RM20 million in revenue over six months in 2026 will fund upcoming water supply service upgrades by PBAPP.
