GEORGE TOWN, August 3 – Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) announced that the nationwide water tariff adjustment under the Tariff Setting Mechanism (TSM) will be implemented in Penang starting 1 July 2026, a full 11 months later than the national rollout.

This delay aligns with a decision made by the Penang State Executive Council, and is expected to generate an additional RM20 million in revenue for PBAPP over a six-month period. CEO Dato’ Ir. Pathmanathan K. said the new water rates—averaging an increase of 20 sen—will support major infrastructure projects across the state.

These include the RM250 million Mengkuang Park Water Treatment Plant in Seberang Perai Tengah, the RM402 million Sungai Kerian Water Treatment Plant in Seberang Perai Selatan, and a RM416 million pipeline project to enhance water delivery from the Sungai Dua facility to Penang Island.

The additional revenue will also go towards reducing Non-Revenue Water (NRW), upgrading chemical handling infrastructure, and improving water supply to the Southwest District. PBAPP reaffirmed its commitment to service excellence, thanking Penangites for their continued support and cooperation.

The water tariff revision is essential to ensuring a more resilient and efficient supply system that can meet the growing needs of the population, while also preparing the state for future water demand challenges.
