CUPERTINO, August 4 — Apple has published nearly three hours of video content from its 2024 Workshop on Human-Centered Machine Learning (HCML), now available on its Machine Learning Research blog.
The recordings highlight a wide range of topics, including model interpretability, accessibility, and the prevention of large-scale negative outcomes in AI systems. The workshop originally took place in August 2024 and featured Apple researchers alongside academic experts from Harvard, University of Washington, and University of Central Florida.
The lineup includes talks such as “Speech Technology for People with Speech Disabilities,” “AI-Powered AR Accessibility,” and “Vision-Based Hand Gesture Customization from a Single Demonstration.” Apple emphasizes that these sessions offer enduring relevance by focusing on human-centric and ethical aspects of AI development—rather than just cutting-edge innovation.
In the same blog post, Apple reiterated its core principles for responsible AI: empowering users, authentic representation, careful design, and robust privacy protection. Notably, Apple’s AI development prioritizes on-device processing and infrastructure like Private Cloud Compute, ensuring that personal data is never used to train foundation models.
The release of these videos further underscores Apple’s broader strategy to integrate ethical foresight into its growing portfolio of AI technologies.
