GEORGE TOWN, August 6 — Penang has launched its first-ever Resilience Strategy, joining the global Resilient Cities Network with support from Micron Foundation. This groundbreaking, fully digital strategy empowers the state to confront climate threats, infrastructure challenges, and social inequities through 13 flagship projects and 30 actionable initiatives.
The effort reflects cross-sector collaboration involving over 20 local organizations and aims to benefit 1.8 million people, including vulnerable communities in flood-prone zones. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow praised the strategy as a bold step toward a future-ready Penang.
While Micron and Resilient Cities Network leaders highlighted the initiative as a model for sustainable development through public-private partnerships. Designed to be inclusive and story-driven, the strategy makes resilience accessible to everyone—from policymakers to youth—marking a new chapter in Penang’s leadership on urban resilience in Southeast Asia.
