GEORGE TOWN, August 6 – The Taman Mesra Flat Residents’ Association has officially requested meetings with the Commissioner of Buildings (COB), Penang State Housing EXCO YB Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo, and Sungai Puyu ADUN YB Phee Syn Tze, to clarify issues surrounding the legitimacy and operations of the Joint Management Body (JMB) at Taman Mesra.
Residents allege that the JMB has failed to conduct annual general meetings, provide financial transparency, or address maintenance complaints since its formation, which many residents claim they were unaware of until receiving backdated fee collection notices in 2019.
The association raised concerns that Taman Mesra does not hold strata titles — a legal requirement for forming a JMB under the Strata Management Act 2013. Residents also highlighted a pattern of poor service delivery, including unaddressed repair issues, aggressive fee collection tactics, and questionable use of maintenance funds.
Multiple reports from residents detail leaking pipes, roof damage, unresolved parking issues, and threats for non-payment, which have prompted police reports and formal complaints to the authorities. The Residents’ Association, formed recently in response to these issues.
Seeks a transparent dialogue with state officials and COB to confirm the legal standing of the JMB and ensure residents’ rights are protected. They urge relevant agencies to investigate the matter, suspend fee collections until clarification is provided, and consider infrastructure upgrades before enforcing any maintenance charges.
