KUALA LUMPUR, August 8 — The Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) has refuted claims by the Youth and Sports Minister suggesting that the council made a U-turn on the youth age limit issue, following a parliamentary session on July 22. MBM stated that its position has always called for a phased and strategic implementation of the age cap at 30.

With sufficient funding to ensure leadership continuity and grassroots programme stability. MBM further clarified that no specific transition funding was provided by the Ministry, countering the minister’s statement that RM1.5 million had been allocated. Instead, MBM confirmed receiving the sum from the Prime Minister’s Office, not from the Ministry.

MBM President Mohd Izzat Afifi also pointed out the lack of follow-up on joint transition committee meetings between MBM and the Ministry, urging a thorough review of the January 2026 implementation to safeguard youth organisations’ sustainability and development.
