CYBERJAYA, August 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today confirmed that world leaders including US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa are expected to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur this October.

Speaking at the 58th ASEAN Day celebration, Anwar, as ASEAN Chair, said positive confirmations have been received from Lula and Ramaphosa, while Trump has expressed interest following a recent phone call. He emphasised the importance of ensuring the summit yields meaningful outcomes and reinforces ASEAN’s relevance on the global stage.

The summit, themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability”, will see Malaysia host regional leaders and dialogue partners to address pressing issues on security, economic cooperation, and regional peace. Anwar called on ASEAN to uphold the founding values of peace, unity, and responsibility.

Citing recent successful diplomatic efforts like the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand as examples of regional solidarity. He urged ASEAN not to take peace for granted and to stay committed to regional solutions, echoing the vision of ASEAN’s founding fathers and reaffirming the bloc’s role in navigating global and geopolitical challenges.
