KUALA LUMPUR, August 9 — Malaysia’s wholesale and retail trade climbed 4.8 per cent year-on-year in June 2025, hitting RM153 billion in sales, driven by festive spending and sustained domestic demand, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

Retail trade contributed RM67.5 billion (+5.4% y-o-y), while wholesale trade hit RM68.3 billion (+5.2% y-o-y), with notable growth in supermarkets, specialised stores, and wholesale of food, beverages, and household goods.

Digital payments saw a remarkable leap, with e-money transactions surging 71.3% year-on-year to RM21.7 billion, reflecting the growing embrace of cashless micro-payments.

Real-time Retail Payments Platform (RPP) transactions soared to RM277.2 billion, while FPX transactions rose 11.4% to RM31.2 billion. Credit and debit card usage remained robust, underscoring a shift in consumer behaviour toward fast, digital financial solutions.
