GEORGE TOWN, August 9 – Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced today that artificial intelligence (AI) will be the cornerstone of Penang’s future economic growth and digital transformation.
Speaking at the AI Horizon 2025conference at SPICE Arena, he outlined AI’s critical role in advancing smart public services, digital education, and entrepreneurship, all contributing to a robust, innovation-led economy.
Penang, he said, is committed to becoming a hub for AI excellence, guided by its Digital Economy Master Plan (2025–2030), which includes business digitalisation, talent development, and the expansion of start-up and high-tech ecosystems.
Framing the AI Horizon 2025 event as a catalyst for global collaboration, Chow emphasised the importance of early AI education and upskilling through schools, TVET programmes, and higher institutions.
The conference is set to attract over 50,000 visitors, featuring national-level AI competitions and showcases from more than 50 tech companies, alongside talks by 25 AI experts from Malaysia, Singapore, and China — reinforcing Penang’s vision of leading Malaysia’s AI transformation by 2030.
