KLANG, August 10 – Malaysia is looking to make seasonal fruits like durian available all year through advanced research and development, taking inspiration from agricultural practices in Thailand and Japan.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said agencies such as the Department of Agriculture (DOA) and MARDI are working on producing high-quality seeds and expanding the availability of local fruits under the Campaign to Eat More Local Fruits and Vegetables.
Speaking at the launch of the national campaign and the closing of FAMA Fest 2025 @ Selangor, Mohamad also announced that only local fruits will be served at government functions to promote local produce.
Meanwhile, FAMA chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli reported that the festival attracted over 40,000 visitors and recorded RM800,000 in sales, contributing to a larger nationwide goal of RM5.3 million in 2025.
