KUALA LUMPUR, August 11 — Malaysian children are increasingly exposed to inappropriate and harmful online content, including adult material, gambling, violence, and weapon-related content, according to Kaspersky’s latest analysis based on data from its Safe Kids parental control solution.
Covering May 2024 to April 2025, the findings highlight a concerning overlap between everyday digital activity and harmful content, with 1.42% of interactions involving adult material and nearly 1% related to gambling.
With 85.6% of teens aged 13–17 active online and 92% on social media, experts warn that extended screen time, AI-generated content, and lack of supervision are compounding digital risks. In response, the Online Safety Act 2024 is set to be enforced soon to hold digital platforms accountable.
Kaspersky urges a combined approach involving parental engagement, national regulation, digital education, and tools like Safe Kids to safeguard young users online.
