KUALA LUMPUR, August 12 — Batu Kawan MP Chow Kon Yeow has called for unwavering political commitment and structural reforms to ensure the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026–2030) achieves its ambitious goals.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, he lauded the plan’s “strategic, competitive and inclusive” approach under the Malaysia Madani framework, highlighting its targets such as placing Malaysia among the world’s top 30 economies, boosting labour income share to 45%, and increasing female workforce participation to 60%.
Chow cautioned, however, that without tackling entrenched political, economic, and social constraints, Malaysia risks falling short of becoming a developed nation. Marking his 40th year in politics, Chow stressed the importance of consistent project monitoring from previous plans, stronger federal–state cooperation, and reforms to uphold good governance, civil liberties, and anti-corruption efforts.
He said public trust would grow when differing views are welcomed and democratic institutions remain independent. Pledging Penang’s support, Chow reaffirmed the state’s readiness to drive high-value economic growth, protect the environment, and uplift living standards, ensuring the benefits of RMKe-13 extend beyond its five-year term to future generations.
