GEORGE TOWN, August 12 – Penang FC’s hopes of kicking off their 2025/26 Super League campaign with a win were dashed after a 0-3 defeat to Terengganu FC (TFC) at the Bandaraya Stadium on Sunday night.

Both sides started evenly, but the visitors began pressing early, with goalkeeper Khairulazhan Khalid denying key chances from Kevin Mabella and Akhyar Rashid. Penang’s best opportunity came in the 23rd minute through Kipre Tchetche, but his powerful strike was pushed away by TFC’s Suhaimi Husin.

The second half saw TFC ramp up their attack, breaking the deadlock in the 49th minute through defender Muhammad Azam Azmi, who converted a cross from Safwan Mazlan. Just five minutes later, Gabriel Silva doubled the lead with a low strike that slipped past Khairulazhan.

Despite tactical changes by Penang to chase the game, the visitors sealed the win in the 89th minute when substitute Mohamad Khalai’f Naskam netted the third goal. The result placed Terengganu in fourth position, while Penang dropped to tenth without points.

The victory also marked TFC’s first away win against Penang since 2022. Up next, Penang will face Melaka FC on August 13, while Terengganu will take on PDRM FC on the same day.
