KUALA LUMPUR, August 14 — Malaysia has achieved 98.82 per cent internet and communications coverage in populated areas, with 5G services now available to 82.4 per cent of these locations, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil told the Dewan Rakyat.

He said Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) has completed 7,489 transmitter sites nationwide, while in Tanjung Karang specifically, coverage stands at 99.75 per cent. Fahmi added that rural 5G expansion will be carried out in stages, with U Mobile’s second 5G network launched on July 14 and infrastructure upgrades continuing across the country.

As of July 31, 5G mobile broadband penetration was at 82.7 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants, with more than 28 million internet accounts using 5G. The first phase of the Jendela plan is set to conclude by end-2025, with Phase 2 plans to be announced later this year, potentially including new towers and satellite internet solutions.
