BAYAN LEPAS, August 15 — AMD has officially opened its new 209,000-square-foot office and engineering lab at GBS by the Sea in Bayan Lepas, reinforcing its five-decade presence in Malaysia’s semiconductor sector.

Designed to accommodate over 1,200 employees, the facility features cutting-edge engineering labs and open workspaces to drive advancements in semiconductor design, particularly in high-performance, adaptive, and AI computing solutions.

The launch was officiated by Penang Chief Minister YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, alongside senior representatives from MIDA and AMD, marking a significant investment in Malaysia’s talent and technology ecosystem.

Chief Minister Chow hailed the milestone as proof of Penang’s position as a thriving global technology hub, noting the state’s readiness to support frontier technologies like AI through initiatives such as the Penang IC Design & Digital Park.

MIDA CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim emphasized that the new facility reflects the evolution of Malaysia’s semiconductor industry, moving from manufacturing to high-value R&D, while creating quality jobs and fostering innovation.

AMD’s Senior Vice President of Global Operations, Keivan Keshvari, reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to Malaysia, stating that the facility will play a pivotal role in delivering next-generation semiconductor solutions globally.

Penang Site Lead Chuang-Li Khoo added that the new office symbolizes a new chapter for AMD in Malaysia, enabling teams to collaborate, innovate, and strengthen Penang’s role as a hub for talent and excellence in the global semiconductor landscape.
