GEORGE TOWN, August 16 — Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy Wong Han Wei has strongly refuted allegations made by former Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik, who claimed on Facebook that Hong Kong’s TVB was dissatisfied with arrangements for its Miss Hong Kong special filming in Penang.

Wong said the TVB production team never raised any complaints and, in fact, praised Penang Global Tourism for its well-organised support. Wong revealed that during the filming period, Ng was not even in Penang but in Kuala Lumpur, displaying a photo as proof.

He described Ng’s posts as “entirely fabricated” and noted that Ng later deleted all related posts, which Wong said showed he lacked credibility. Wong added that TVB had sent him a message on Friday morning expressing gratitude for the assistance and reminding him to tune in to the broadcast of the Miss Hong Kong special on TVB Jade Channel at 8pm on Saturday.

Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, Wong said this was the first time in history that TVB had chosen Malaysia, specifically Penang, as a filming location for the Miss Hong Kong special. Shooting took place at iconic sites such as Clan Jetties, Pinang Peranakan Mansion, Penang State Museum, City Hall, Weld Quay, Penang Hill and Batu Ferringhi.

He stressed that the special would bring lasting global exposure for Penang’s tourism sector, benefiting local businesses and showcasing the state to millions of Chinese-speaking viewers worldwide.
