KUALA LUMPUR, August 16 — Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has turned down an offer to resume his role as president of Muda following his acquittal on corruption charges.
He said he has informed the party leadership that he needs more time, adding that his current priority is to spend time with his family, focus on his constituency work in Muar, and continue fundraising for local community needs.
The offer to return as party president was made by Muda’s acting president, Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, on June 26. Syed Saddiq vacated the position during his corruption trial but was later cleared of four charges, including abetting criminal breach of trust and money laundering.
The Court of Appeal set aside his conviction, seven-year jail term, RM10 million fine, and whipping sentence, restoring his political standing.
