KUALA LUMPUR, August 17 – The littoral combat ship (LCS) project is 72.9 per cent complete as of June 25, falling short of its 76.1 per cent target due to rework on piping and cabling systems, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin revealed in Parliament. Despite the delay.

He assured that all ships remain on track for delivery within the revised timeline, with LCS1 entering the Setting to Work phase and its first sea trial set for December. Khaled added that construction of LCS3 to LCS5 is progressing as planned, with deliveries scheduled every eight months from 2027 to 2029.

He also provided updates on other procurements, including the near-complete assembly of three ANKA drones from Turkey, expected by February 2026. To avoid past failures, Khaled said multiple oversight mechanisms have been put in place involving key ministries and agencies.
