GEORGE TOWN, August 22 — Penang has reaffirmed its position as Malaysia’s leading medical tourism hub after recording RM888.7 million in revenue and 412,944 foreign patients last year, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced at the launch of Icon Sunsuria and Island Hospital’s Cancer Centre.
He added that as of August 18 this year, the state has already drawn 213,032 foreign patients, generating RM461.4 million, underscoring the steady growth of the sector despite stronger competition from other states.
Chow said Penang continues to expand its medical offerings with new private hospitals and specialised centres such as the Northern Heart Centre and the newly launched cancer facility, which doubles treatment capacity with advanced programs in women’s cancer care and hematology services.
Highlighting Penang’s highly skilled specialists and cutting-edge technology, he stressed that the state not only serves locals but also attracts patients across the region, positioning itself as a trusted destination for world-class healthcare.
