GEORGE TOWN, August 22 — The Silicon Island reclamation project has reached a significant milestone, with 81 hectares of land successfully reclaimed, Penang Infrastructure Corporation Sdn Bhd (PIC) confirmed today.

The 930.7-hectare mega project, planned in two phases, will feature key infrastructure including a 380m marine viaduct linked to the Pan Island Link 2A, a new Matang Food Court and Community Hub, and a KEMAS training centre.

PIC CEO Datuk Seri Farizan Darus said the progress reflects growing confidence in the project, which promises investments, job creation, and improved amenities for local communities. The project emphasizes resilience and sustainability.

With RM11.7 million in ex-gratia payments already disbursed to 791 fishermen under the Social Impact Management Plan. Additionally, 118 boat-owning fishermen have received new boats and engines worth nearly RM10 million.

Earlier today, Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his consort Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, accompanied by state officials and SRS Consortium representatives, visited the reclaimed site using a temporary steel bridge at Permatang Damar Laut to mark the milestone.
