PUTRAJAYA, August 23 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) to review all national security protocols following the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) probe into a smuggling syndicate involving senior Armed Forces personnel.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said Anwar also instructed Mindef to submit a full report once MACC concludes its investigation, stressing that national security must not be compromised. The graft probe, which saw the arrest of 10 individuals including five senior officers — two from the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO) — has raised concerns over possible security risks.

Fahmi said once MACC completes its investigation, the military will conduct its own internal review, while Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin has also been asked to update the Cabinet on the recent FA-18D Hornet fighter jet crash in Kuantan.
