KUALA LUMPUR, August 24 – Malaysia’s energy giants PETRONAS and Tenaga Nasional have emerged as the top ASEAN brands in their respective sectors, according to Brand Finance’s inaugural Energy 100 report for 2025. PETRONAS, valued at USD14.4 billion, is recognised as the third strongest oil & gas brand globally, with a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 83.7 and an AAA- rating.
Meanwhile, Tenaga Nasional’s brand value surged 35% to USD2.3 billion, earning an AAA rating and second place in the global utilities brand strength ranking, driven by consumer trust and green initiatives like its Green Electricity Tariff programme. The report also highlighted the strong regional performance of Thailand’s PTT and Indonesia’s Pertamina in oil & gas, as well as Indonesia’s PLN and Singapore’s SP Group in utilities.
Brand Finance Managing Director for Asia Pacific, Alex Haigh, noted that ASEAN brands are setting global benchmarks by integrating sustainability into their strategies, proving that investment in green innovation and stakeholder trust translates into tangible brand strength and global competitiveness.
