KUALA LUMPUR, August 28 — The government is finalising plans to implement targeted subsidies for RON95 petrol, with full details expected by the end of September, said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. Speaking in Parliament.

He explained that mechanisms under review include MyKad, e-wallets, and oil company apps, ensuring the process remains seamless and user-friendly. The MyKad system, similar to that used for Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), would verify eligibility through the Central Database Hub (PADU) without disrupting usual payment methods.

Amir Hamzah stressed that the move, designed to avoid burdening the wider public, is crucial to reduce the nation’s fiscal strain from blanket subsidies while ensuring aid reaches those in need. A public portal and contact centre will also be set up for eligibility checks, assistance, and feedback.

The minister noted that lessons from targeted diesel and electricity subsidies — already in place under BUDI Madani — have provided the government with more fiscal space to expand welfare programmes, including healthcare, education, and public transport improvements.
