KUALA LUMPUR, September 1 — The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and MUFG Bank (Malaysia) Berhad have signed a landmark memorandum of understanding to attract high-value investments across Malaysia’s innovation-driven sectors.

The partnership targets key industries such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, green technology, aerospace, and pharmaceuticals, aligning with Malaysia’s ambition to become a leading innovation hub in Southeast Asia. This move comes just days after the announcement of the 13th Malaysia Plan, highlighting the nation’s focus on economic transformation.

MIDA CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim hailed the agreement as a vital step in strengthening Malaysia-Japan economic relations, noting that it will facilitate bilateral investments, joint ventures, and strategic collaborations.

MUFG Malaysia CEO Motohide Okuda echoed the sentiment, calling the partnership a shared vision to support Malaysia’s sustainable growth. The MoU signing, witnessed by MUFG Chairman Kanetsugu Mike, reinforces the country’s commitment to fostering global partnerships for long-term, inclusive development.
