KUALA LUMPUR, September 7 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) appreciation aid is not a standalone solution but part of the Government’s wider initiatives, including the MySara and Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) programmes.
Disbursed from August 31, the one-off aid aims to supplement existing measures in easing living costs for millions of Malaysians. Anwar noted that while some critics questioned the amount, the Sara initiative should be viewed alongside STR, which collectively benefits nine million individuals with an allocation of RM15 billion this year.
He added that the programme has even drawn admiration from foreign leaders, who acknowledged the scale of Malaysia’s assistance efforts. As of September 6, the Ministry of Finance reported that the Sara initiative had generated RM100 million in sales through 1.7 million recipients.
Achieving a 99.9 per cent transaction success rate. In total, the Sara aid is expected to benefit 22 million people nationwide, marking the largest cash assistance initiative in Malaysia’s history.
