KUALA LUMPUR, September 12 — The government has collected RM288.45 million in taxes from electronic cigarettes and vape products between 2021 and July 2025, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told Parliament. In comparison, cigarette tax revenue over the same period reached RM15.02 billion, bringing the combined total from both products to RM15.30 billion.

Anwar explained that excise duty on non-nicotine vape liquids was first introduced in January 2021 at 40 sen per millilitre, alongside a 10 per cent duty on vape and cigarette devices. The scope was later expanded in May 2023 to include nicotine-containing liquids, with both nicotine and non-nicotine variants taxed at the same rate. He noted that these products are also subject to sales tax and import duty, as they are categorised as demerit goods.
