PETALING JAYA, September 15 — Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil revealed that he too has received threatening emails demanding US$100,000 to block the release of fabricated AI-generated sex videos, similar to those targeting several other lawmakers including Rafizi Ramli, Wong Chen, Adam Adli, and Najwan Halimi.
Fahmi said the emails, which carried identical wording and fake screenshots, are believed to have originated from the same source, and stressed that the government will not compromise with parties who misuse technology to intimidate or deceive the public. He confirmed that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police have been instructed to work closely to trace the perpetrators.
Warning that such acts fall under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of up to RM500,000 or a two-year jail term, as well as Section 503 of the Penal Code on criminal intimidation. Fahmi reaffirmed that the MADANI government will mobilise all efforts to ensure those responsible are brought to justice to protect public safety.
