KUALA LUMPUR, September 16 — Malaysia’s unique year-round tropical climate, multi-ethnic society, and strong cultural ties with China are key drivers behind the recent surge in Chinese tourist arrivals, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. Speaking in an interview with Chinese broadcaster CGTN during his working visit to China, Anwar credited the mutual visa-free policy and Malaysia’s political stability for creating an inviting environment.
“Those who have not visited are losing — this is a beautiful country, very friendly,” he said, highlighting Malaysia’s appeal as a destination where visitors can enjoy beaches, mountains, and vibrant city life without seasonal limits. Anwar also praised China’s advancements in agriculture, noting Malaysia is learning from its successes in mechanisation, modern farming, and sustainable practices.
He said Malaysia is prioritising improvements for rural rice farmers, who remain among the most vulnerable, and sees China’s model as a guide to boosting productivity and welfare. “In China, not only farming, but every single field has shown phenomenal progress that you can share,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of bilateral collaboration beyond tourism.
