BUTTERWORTH, September 17 — The nation came together in a vibrant display of patriotism and cultural pride as Malaysia celebrated its 62nd Malaysia Day at the PICCA Convention Centre, Butterworth. Held under the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni,” the event marked the first time Penang hosted the national-level celebration, symbolising the inclusiveness and diversity that Malaysia represents.

The celebration featured exhibitions, cultural showcases, and performances that reflected the country’s multi-ethnic heritage, drawing participation from people of all ages and backgrounds. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who officiated the ceremony, underscored the deeper meaning of Malaysia Day beyond its historical significance of uniting Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak, and Singapore in 1963.

He stressed that the day serves as a reminder of the nation’s ongoing journey to uphold justice, unity, and sovereignty in the face of modern challenges. Calling for solidarity, he urged Malaysians to rise above divisive politics, religious extremism, and regional sentiments that threaten harmony.

Instead, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a Malaysia that values inclusivity, compassion, and good governance under the principles of Malaysia MADANI. The Prime Minister also shared his vision for the country’s future, one that is not only rooted in ethical and cultural values but also strengthened through innovation, technology, and green industries.

He highlighted the importance of preparing the younger generation to thrive in a rapidly changing world while ensuring that economic growth remains equitable and sustainable. Reflecting on the sacrifices of past leaders and citizens who fought for independence and unity.

Anwar reminded Malaysians that true nationhood lies in shared responsibility and collective progress. The celebration concluded with a call for all Malaysians to stand together, safeguarding peace and harmony while shaping a dignified future for the nation.
