ALOR SETAR, September 17 — PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang declared at the party’s 71st annual congress that PAS is ready to govern Malaysia with leadership rooted in Islam, pledging to uphold the Federal Constitution while adhering to what he described as the true interpretation of the faith.
Addressing over 4,400 delegates, Hadi stressed that Islam offers a just and merciful framework that can unite Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society without sidelining non-Muslims, assuring that freedom of religion and respect for diversity would be preserved under PAS-led governance.
At the same time, Hadi dismissed the government’s “Malaysia Madani” slogan as a deceptive concept influenced by Western reformist ideas, arguing that it risks misleading the faith and the people. He called for an economic restructuring that distributes wealth more fairly, eliminates corruption, and moves away from reliance on usury-based systems.
The congress, attended by Perikatan Nasional leaders including Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, also underscored PAS’s theme this year — “Returning to Islamic Solutions” — signalling the party’s intent to position itself as an alternative to the unity government.
