GEORGE TOWN, September 23 — Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan confirmed today that Malaysians will only need their MyKad to enjoy the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy at RM1.99 per litre beginning September 30, eliminating the need for a new system or card.

He said the MyKad, already used for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) programme, will now also serve as the access point for Budi95, ensuring convenience, security, and national pride in the identity card.

The scheme applies to Malaysians aged 16 and above with valid driving licences, capped at 300 litres per person monthly, which Amir Hamzah said is sufficient even for long-distance commuters.

Foreign-registered vehicles, however, remain excluded. He added that the subsidy is expected to save the government RM2.5–4 billion annually by curbing leakages, while ensuring Malaysians continue to enjoy one of the world’s lowest fuel prices.
