BUKIT MERTAJAM, September 25 — The Human Resources Ministry (Kesuma) will roll out financial management courses for gig workers to strengthen their knowledge in savings, investments, taxation, and overall money management.

Human Resources Minister Steven Sim said the initiative, part of a nationwide roadshow, is aimed at addressing concerns raised by gig workers, including anxiety over tax obligations, while also creating awareness of the Gig Workers Bill 2025.

Beyond financial literacy, Kesuma also plans to offer skills training such as motorcycle repair and cooking to boost career opportunities, alongside urging businesses to provide safer, rider-friendly waiting facilities for delivery workers.

The ministry’s recent Penang Rider Jalan Teruih programme in Permatang Pauh drew over 1,500 motorcyclists, marking Sim’s first direct engagement with gig workers to discuss the bill and provide government support.
