KUALA LUMPUR, September 25 — Malaysia’s major mobile operators CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia, and YTL Communications announced a joint initiative to launch the Number Verification API under the GSMA Open Gateway programme, offering online businesses a secure tool to fight fraud and digital identity theft.
Unveiled at the Digital Nation Summit, the federated service will enable banks and retailers to verify customers’ mobile numbers in real-time as a safer alternative to SMS OTPs, strengthening trust, boosting user experience, and paving the way for a more secure digital economy across Malaysia and ASEAN.
