SEBERANG PERAI, September 29 — Penang-born engineer Jason Ng, founder of Cell AgriTech, has successfully developed cultivated beef, unagi, and grouper from animal cells in a Seberang Jaya lab and is set to launch the products in Singapore next year, with a new manufacturing plant capable of producing up to 30,000kg annually.
Backed by a RM10 million investment and a team of 20 Malaysian scientists, Ng aims to secure halal certification by early 2026, while Malaysia remains on hold due to the absence of regulatory frameworks—though Penang leaders have expressed support for hosting the pioneering homegrown industry once guidelines are in place.
