KUALA LUMPUR, October 1 — Pregnant athletes in Malaysia can now continue training and competing if medically certified fit, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced today.
She said the government has abolished the previous practice of automatically removing pregnant athletes from training or employment, noting that physical demands vary across sports.
The new policy also introduces maternity leave for athletes and calls for better childcare support to make sports more women-friendly.
Yeoh added that her ministry is working with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) to identify potential para-athletes through rehabilitation programmes, creating new opportunities for those recovering from injuries.
