GEORGE TOWN, October 2 — Penang will soon enjoy daily connectivity with Chengdu as Sichuan Airlines upgrades its Tianfu–Penang service from five weekly flights to daily operations under its Winter Schedule, effective late October until March 2026. State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the route.
Launched in April this year, has already delivered encouraging results, with Flight 3U3911 departing Chengdu at 7.40pm and arriving in Penang at 12.05am, and the return flight 3U3912 leaving Penang at 1am to reach Chengdu at 5.10am.
Wong added that Penang is now linked to six major Chinese cities through nine airlines, covering East, South, and Southwest China, with total weekly flights set to rise from 61 to 63. Between January and July this year alone, Penang welcomed 121,030 Chinese visitors by air.
A 103.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024, and a dramatic 634.4% surge from 2023. He said the surge reflects strong demand from the Chinese market and reinforces Penang’s standing as a premier international tourism destination.
