GEORGE TOWN, October 4 — The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) today launched the Virtual Island of Penang (VIP), a RM30 million AI-powered digital twin platform designed to enhance urban management through real-time data, satellite imagery, LiDAR and predictive AI.

Featuring 10 integrated modules — including disaster management, geotechnical slope monitoring, tree health detection, smart mobility and heritage preservation — the system enables proactive responses to safety risks, streamlined enforcement, and improved tax collection while offering select features to the public via MBPP’s Pearl app.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the initiative positions Penang as a leader in digital governance, with potential for replication nationwide to strengthen efficiency, resilience and public service delivery.
