KUALA LUMPUR, October 10 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia will focus on advancing the ASEAN Power Grid infrastructure under Budget 2026, reinforcing regional cooperation in clean energy and cross-border electricity trade.
The initiative, discussed during Malaysia’s chairmanship of the ASEAN-GCC-China Energy Transition Meeting earlier this year, aims to enhance energy connectivity and promote sustainable power solutions across Southeast Asia.
As part of the plan, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Petronas will collaborate with ASEAN partners to accelerate the Vietnam-Malaysia-Singapore power grid project, which will channel electricity from southern Vietnam to Malaysia and Singapore.
The project, formalised during the ASEAN Summit earlier this year, marks a major step toward achieving a resilient and integrated regional energy network capable of supporting the region’s growing power needs through sustainable sources.
