GEORGE TOWN, October 10 — Penangites can look forward to smoother traffic flow with the long-awaited Mount Erskine Underpass Project, officially approved under Budget 2026.
The initiative, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, marks a major step in addressing chronic congestion along Jalan Mount Erskine, Jalan Gottlieb, Jalan Burma, and Jalan Bagan Jermal — some of the busiest routes on the island.
The new underpass, which will connect Jalan Mount Erskine to Jalan Burma at the Mount Erskine-Gottlieb-Burma-Bagan Jermal intersection, forms part of the government’s broader effort to enhance Penang’s road infrastructure and overall livability.
This long-anticipated project reflects the Unity Government’s commitment to improving public mobility, reducing traffic bottlenecks, and ensuring greater comfort and convenience for Penang residents.
