KUALA LUMPUR, October 10 — The Malaysian Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen Bahasa Melayu as the foundation of national identity, culture, and unity, while also promoting English proficiency to enhance global competitiveness. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Bahasa Melayu will remain the main medium of learning across all schools and education streams.

The Ministry of Education (KPM) will intensify compliance checks on the 249 international schools found neglecting Bahasa Melayu and civic studies, ensuring all Malaysian students uphold their linguistic and cultural heritage. The revival of the Hadiah Bahasa award reflects the MADANI Government’s determination to elevate the national language as a symbol of pride and civilizational excellence.

At the same time, the government is investing in Malaysia’s creative sector to bolster the Orange Economy. A total of RM110 million in incentives will be provided for film productions, including RM10 million dedicated to nation-themed content, alongside another RM10 million to support concerts by local and international artists during Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

To boost the digital creative ecosystem, RM20 million will be allocated to nurture local animation and gaming talents. Ministries and departments will also gain procurement flexibility to purchase locally made merchandise and digital content, empowering Malaysian creators to thrive both domestically and globally.
