GEORGE TOWN, October 12 – Wawasan Open University (WOU) has expanded its academia–industry collaborations by signing MoUs with Fourier TVET Centre, MI Equipment Sdn Bhd, and 3REN Berhad, reinforcing its commitment to building Penang’s workforce for Industry 4.0.
The partnerships aim to bridge skills gaps across the electrical and electronics (E&E), semiconductor, automation, and medical technology sectors, providing flexible learning pathways for workers from shop-floor operators to senior executives.
At the signing ceremony, WOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Lily Chan emphasised the university’s role as an enabler in shaping Penang’s talent landscape, highlighting the importance of aligning academic programmes with industry needs.
InvestPenang CEO Dato’ Loo Lee Lian praised the initiative as a timely step in strengthening Penang’s position as a global technology hub, noting that WOU’s flexible upskilling model ensures employees can remain competitive in a rapidly evolving economy.
