GEORGE TOWN, October 17 – The United States continues to be one of Penang’s largest trade partners, with exports totaling RM79 billion between January and August this year, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at the Amcham Penang Dialogue 2025.

He noted that 120 American companies are currently operating in Penang, contributing to technology, innovation, and job creation, with RM2.6 billion in approved US manufacturing FDI recorded in the first half of 2025.

Highlighting Penang’s growing role in chip design and R&D, Chow announced progress under the Penang Silicon Design @5KM+ initiative, which includes the IC Design Park, Chip Design Academy, and Silicon Research Hub — setting the stage for Malaysia’s first locally designed semiconductor chip.
